Readiness for Launch: The RISS Project Heads into Its Final Phase

The RISS – Rail Interlocking System Simulation project marked another important milestone with its sixth partnership meeting, held on October 14–15, 2025, in Bari, Italy, hosted by ITS Cuccovillo. As the project enters its final months, partners met to assess recent progress and align the final steps before the official closure.

Advancing Digital Rail Training

During the meeting, partners confirmed that the simulation scenarios are now fully developed and finalized. These high-quality scenarios, built to reflect realistic railway interlocking operations, are the foundation of the project’s innovative digital learning approach. The simulations are now being used to test and refine user and instructor guides, ensuring the effectiveness of the training system for vocational educators and learners alike.

Meanwhile, the development of the Learning Management System (LMS) is in its final stages. Once launched, the platform will host the complete RISS simulation experience, providing a structured environment for accessing content, tracking learning progress, and engaging with digital rail scenarios.

Looking to the Future

Beyond finalizing the project’s current outputs, the meeting served as a space for exploring future opportunities. Partners discussed potential follow-up initiatives, including the integration of Virtual Reality and Metaverse elements into a next-generation version of the simulation. These ideas aim to further modernize training methods and expand the reach of RISS technologies.

The next key milestone will be the RISS Final Conference and Learning, Teaching, and Training (LTT) activity, scheduled for December 3–5, 2025, in Ankara, Türkiye. This event will officially close the project and present its outcomes to a broader audience of educators, stakeholders, and professionals in the rail sector.

Stay connected as we prepare to launch the full RISS platform and celebrate the results of this innovative European cooperation!
